Is this… happiness?

Hey folks, how are we all? It’s starting to get cold here. We moved into our new house in the summer, so all three of us are looking forward to our first Autumn in Woodham.

There’s still a lot we want to do to the house, but it’s been a wonderful first few months. Jackson’s speech is improving, so the house as been full of “Mummy! Daddy! Cars! Doki!”.

I love autumn. Not only is it Frankie’s birthday and Halloween (on the same day!), but I’ve always really enjoyed the cosiness of the season – nights in with spooky movies, the duvet on the sofa, and a big ol’ bag of popcorn and other snacks. Sure, you can do that kind of thing any time of year, but I just think it feels right in autumn.

I mean, Autumn has a really special place in our family’s history, too.

Speaking of feeling right, this blog post is basically me reflecting. Back in 2017, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I had a good job, great friends, but I just didn’t feel happy.

Fast forward four years, and I couldn’t be better. I still have those great friends, but I now work in my dream job. I have Francesca, and we have Jackson (and Loki!).

My best mate

It’s been a hell of a ride, though. It’s wild to think that two years ago, I went to Reach and felt my confidence in my writing fall apart. After such a long period of trying to convince Frankie it was a good career change for me, I felt I was going to have to go back to working in local government again. Thankfully, Gfinity took a chance on me.

Last week marked my first month down at Dexerto, and it’s been such a great time so far. I’ve learned a lot in my first few weeks, and working with such a large team has been great, especially when they’re all so driven. I’ve always battled that voice in my head that tells me I’m not good enough, but it feels like it’s finally been silenced.

It’s a strange feeling to wake up and look forward to work. I get up, have breakfast with my son, and then head into the garage. I hit the gym at lunch (down a shirt size, thanks for asking), then back to work. Once I’ve logged off, I put our boy to bed, then spend an evening with my soulmate. I think… I think I’m finally, completely, truly happy.

Me, in all my weirdly happy glory

As if by magic, too, my facial alopecia cleared up following the move. If that’s not evidence that it was stress related, I don’t know what is.

Hell, Arsenal smashed Spurs a couple of weeks back, too – what a time to be alive. Anyway, there have been some rough times I’ve written about on my blog, and I’m so thankful to be clear of them.

I guess the moral of the story is to keep the faith. In other news? I also upgraded my phone to the iPhone 13 Pro Max – but I’ve been commissioned to review that in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that. We’ve also been watching Midnight Mass which is great – got a few episodes left and then I’ll report back.

Hoping to get blogging a little bit more regularly by the way, folks – I’ve been working on a load of freelance stuff that’ll be popping up all over the internet soon, but I’m able to take a little bit more of a break now!

Ciao for now,

L
